Thoughts on scaling information security, innovation, careers and management

Professional Background

I am an engineering manager for a team of security engineers at Splunk. As an engineer manager of an internal tooling and automation function, I spend a lot of time playing the role of Product Manager as well. Some of the areas that I am currently very interested in are:

  • scaling information security as a function and growing security teams
  • improving my mental model of different sub-areas within information security by
    • creating a mind-map of different areas within information security and the general problems statements within each
    • studying different security companies, their technology and how they are solving some of the problems in the space
    • studying standards, frameworks, and maturity models
  • understanding how the security problem space is evolving in different technology contexts

Prior to my transition to management I was a Principal Security Engineer working on securing products, and scaling security functions at companies of different sizes.
